Watercolors

Expanding my series of imaginary landscapes made by hammering low reliefs onto sheets of copper, I am currently transforming this vision of shifting light onto sheets of paper.
Working with highly pigmented metallic watercolors, these landscapes are painted onto sheets of paper that I have previously prepared with a coat of gesso to create an undulating relief. The metallic sheen of the particles floating in the watercolors accentuates the ripples in the paper and causes the light to fluctuate.

These metallic watercolors are in direct dialogue with the luminosity of the copper.

In the tradition of Romantic landscape painting, these works conjure atmospheric effects where light and sky meet land and sea.
